Photoroom, an AI-powered photo editor, has closed a $43 million Series B funding round, led by previous investor Balderton Capital and with Aglaé and YCombinator participating. This latest round brings Photoroom’s total funding to $64 million.
Photoroom will use this funding to accelerate its investments in generative AI; specifically, by investing in more graphics processing units (GPUs) and securing imagery from leading image providers and photographers to expand its model capabilities. The company also plans to invest in headcount by doubling the size of the team by the end of 2024, investing particularly in talent with significant AI knowledge and experience.
With the funding news, Photoroom has launched its first foundation model product photography, Photoroom Instant Diffusion (Photoroom ID). The solution is trained for master product photography to ensure images from different sources acquire the same style.
“The foundation model is the next step in empowering businesses to create amazing product photos without the need to be an expert at prompt engineering or photography,” said Matthieu Rouif, Co-founder and CEO at Photoroom in a statement. “Our model has been trained to excel at product photography and can quickly adapt to user needs and feedback.”
Because Photoroom has control over the custom model, its team will be able to constantly incorporate new research. With its custom architecture, the company also will be able to accelerate the speed of image generation by up to 40%, so users can generate and iterate upon images faster. “We are not only increasing the speed of our model, but also optimizing for quality, through higher resolution, more detailed images, and a larger training dataset than ever before,” Rouif explained. “As a user-centric AI company, we designed the architecture to make sense for our users.”
